CHARLATANISM NARCISSISM NONREALISM INFANTILISM
History rhymes some say, but really how can this be so?
I went to my favorite word websites Rhyme Zone and Word Hippo yesterday, to find an idea on which to write today. Finding many words rhyming with ‘Narcissism,’ I was well on my way to my political thoughts for today. I think I didn’t understand the true meaning of the rhyming word ‘nonrealism’ prior to the writing, but I touch upon it below for your information. I searched X for the words 'charlatan’ and ‘infantilism’ which brought up posts much in the same mind as mine in writing the verse. These are posted below. Here’s my verse:
A X search of the word ‘charlatan,’ with two quotes on the closely related word ‘cheat.’
A X search of the word ‘infantilism,’ with four quotes on ‘immaturity’.
I found a quote associated with each of my four words found in my verse.
“Donald Trump is an unstable charlatan who is appealing to the worst instincts in people, and I believe ultimately the American people are going to reject that.”
— Martin O'Malley
Martin Joseph O'Malley (born January 18, 1963) is an American lawyer and former politician who served as the 61st governor of Maryland from 2007 to 2015. A member of the Democratic Party, he was the 48th mayor of Baltimore from 1999 to 2007.
“Narcissism falls along the axis of what psychologists call personality disorders . . . but by most measures, narcissism is one of the worst, if only because the narcissists themselves are so clueless.”
— Jeffrey Kluger
Jeffrey Kluger (born 1954) is an American senior writer at Time magazine and author of nine books on various topics, such as The Narcissist Next Door (2014); Splendid Solution: Jonas Salk and the Conquest of Polio (2005); The Sibling Effect (2011); and Lost Moon: The Perilous Voyage of Apollo 13 (1994). The latter work was the basis for Ron Howard's film Apollo 13 (1995). He is also the author of two books for young adults: Nacky Patcher and the Curse of the Dry-Land Boats (2007) and Freedom Stone (2011).
In regards to Jeffery Kluger I found the following review of the book The Narcissist Next Door online and the following image is from the review for your information. I found this interesting and valuable to understand about the narcissist.
“True realism consists in revealing the surprising things which habit keeps covered and prevents us from seeing.”
— Jean Cocteau
Jean Maurice Eugène Clément Cocteau (5 July 1889 – 11 October 1963) was a French poet, playwright, novelist, designer, filmmaker, visual artist and critic. He was one of the foremost creatives of the surrealist, avant-garde, and Dadaist movements; and one of the most influential figures in early 20th-century art as a whole. The National Observer suggested that, "of the artistic generation whose daring gave birth to Twentieth Century Art, Cocteau came closest to being a Renaissance man."
I seemed to not perhaps understand the term ‘Nonrealism’ sufficiently prior to using it in my verse. I looked it up to try and straighten it out. I wished to use this word as a substitute for right-wing fantasy or imagination, at least that was my intention. The image below discusses the term in relation to theater and more broadly in the arts , and one can easily transform the meaning into the theatrical politics we unfortunately are subjected to. I decided to use the verse I wrote yesterday with the needed explanation, and with no rewrite.
From Wiktionary:
Noun
nonrealism (uncountable)
(art) Quality of not being realistic.
“There is something infantile in the presumption that somebody else has a responsibility to give your life meaning and point… The truly adult view, by contrast, is that our life is as meaningful, as full and as wonderful as we choose to make it.”
— Richard Dawkins
Richard Dawkins FRS FRSL (born 26 March 1941) is a British evolutionary biologist and author. He is an emeritus fellow of New College, Oxford, and was Professor for Public Understanding of Science in the University of Oxford from 1995 to 2008. His 1976 book The Selfish Gene popularised the gene-centred view of evolution, as well as coining the term meme. Dawkins has won several academic and writing awards.
So that is what I could come up with yesterday and into today - such as it is. I hope it was worth reading.
