“The Confederation entered into by the thirteen Provinces, at the commencement of the American conflict was a mere rope of sand; but the Federal Union formed at the close of the Revolution is a chain of brass, which we trust will never, never be broken.”
— Charles J. Folger
Charles James Folger (April 16, 1818 – September 4, 1884) was an American lawyer and politician. A member of the Republican Party, he was a State Senator in New York from 1862 to 1869 and served as the 34th U.S. Secretary of the Treasury from November 14th, 1881 until his death in 1884.
National Divorce
She is calling for a national divorce, someone who’s scoffed at by most due to her absurdity, yet she’s in the “people’s house,”
Saying that “we don’t want another civil war,” while wearing an assault rifle lapel pin perhaps,
“But we must protect our way of life from the liberals,” a woman, maladjusted since before the Civil War,
We have seen all of this before, it really is from another age, yet it’s promoting oligarchy, so its life remains immortal in America.
A commentator says financial considerations are not paramount in their minds in some for a split, as to them their social life, with cultural victories seemingly beyond dollars, and for a group so loving wealth, this is sobering,
And I agree now, hence showing the economic folly may not pursued this anxious faction in the error of a decision,
I have started calling them “neofascists” and “neoconfederates,” with both words actually being the same,
The confederacy has spread far and wide, by use of insidious politics, and cable propaganda entering too many homes, a ridiculous man with a long red tie,
My great grandfather born in Orange, Virginia had to make his choice, he fought for the Union in the 33rd Iowa Infantry,
It is a natural tragedy, and failure of great proportions that these same forces have been kept alive for myself to make the same decision in 2023, with siblings who I may have to oppose,
What on earth is wrong with us, I admit my defects, but it’s hard to understand their fear, hate, insecurity, loathing, metathesiophobia, (fear of change),
Ignorance plays a large role, but it is more involved than this, it’s an overlapping of many spiderwebs in complexity,
One must end a writing with a message of uplift, but for this topic it’s hard to see any upside, as a national suffering is what’s ahead on these train tracks,
Man is self-destructive, yet there are 8 billion of us as of last November, it makes no sense that we are still around, and the “national divorce” makes no sense either.
My decision will be the same as my great grandfather’s.
