Definition of contempt (noun) : the act of despising : the state of mind of one who despises [despise - to look down on with disrespect or aversion] : DISDAIN
“Christ saw much in this world to weep over, and much to pray over; but he saw nothing in it to look upon with contempt.”
— E. H. Chapin
CHAPIN, EDWIN HUBBELL, born in Union Village, Washington county, New York, December 29, 1814; a distinguished Universalist divine, and an eminent pulpit orator, writer, and lecturer; died, December 27, 1880.
“Contempt of others is the truest symptom of a bad heart.”
— Fielding.
FIELDING, HENRY, born at Sharpham Park. Somersetshire, April 22, 1707; an eminent English novelist; died at Lisbon, Portugal, October, 1754.
“There are silly persons who will scorn to be seen in the company of such as have not an equal share of finery; and there are weak upstarts of fortune who disdain to look at those who cannot measure purses with themselves.”
— G. Crabb
CRABB, GEORGE, born, 1778; an English etymologist, philologist, and author; died, 1854.
Those who have perhaps a manufactured contempt, fueled by years of derision by right-wing pundits with bags of fallacy to pass out, years of voracious politician’s attacks, who only can imagine the downfall of the “radical left” as the ultimate just-desert in their minds,
This hatred is the four hundred pound gorilla of mind to so many, it seems to be a great motivator,
Before continuing I must admit a certain degree of contempt in my psyche toward certain anti-government, anti-democratic high profiled individuals,
Yet I do not only look for my representative leaders to only fulfill my own contemptuous Id toward these people, to own the right wingers,
Their duties much extend beyond my personal grievances, they must be above such a limited role, such a deficiency of purpose,
To correctly represent myself and others, owning the opposition does little in practical terms, to be courageous - yes, but to be much beyond personal pettiness,
And this I feel is exactly the only intent of the opposition, as actual traditional qualifications matter little so long as the libs are owned,
Hence we must endure the pathology and ignorance of so many elevated to a position in which they have no reason to be so placed,
It is apparent that ethical standards or even legality mindedness does now not matter to many people now, this is a very clear indication of American decay in my mind, and a reason for a call to action,
Do these people who are contemptuous toward others have a “bad heart,” do they have disdain due to a perceived group - with purses smaller than their own,
I wish not to be the judge of “hearts,” as this is beyond a mere mortal to fully grasp,
Yet this attempt of such understanding seems that it may bear fruit in this instance, the purse does certainly matter in the discussion,
Or perhaps there is a measure of disdain to those who are deemed unworthy of the purses they may process,
Especially in a hierarchical worldview in which they traverse obediently,
That Christ was not full of contempt as the author above clearly states seems that it might not be lost upon those subscribers to the teachings of Christian scripture,
But undoubtedly like so many other things, such is not the case, and perhaps a religious bent may be used as a justification for contempt in the so called believers,
But looking at the country’s future, of its welfare, this contempt, this disdain greatly underserves the greater good,
And “owning the libs leaders” are not beneficial to the nation in most ways,
They do not, on a long term, benefit the political party which the declare allegiance to,
And perhaps most importantly these leaders do not truly benefit those who caste yes votes for them, they are non-representatives, only catering to human’s worst traits, fulfilling the voter’s misplaced emotional demons,
The personal lesson is not to emulate this irrational contempt, to also close our minds toward these Americans, as difficult as this may be,
But we certainly must clearly define and defend our boundaries always.
“Men deride what they do not understand, and snarl at the good and beautiful because it lies beyond their sympathies.”
— Goethe.
GOETHE, JOHN WOLFGANG, VON, born at Frankfort, 1749; an eminent German dramatic author, poet, naturalist, and savant, and the most illustrious name in his country's literature; died, March 22, 1832.
One must have an open mind, a duty that requires continuous energy to maintain, and must always be tested daily,
To refuse the desire for understanding is a great hindrance to not only oneself but for society as a whole,
This seems too intuitive to even have to write about, but it is a rare asset among some ideological groups today,
Perhaps what would seem “good” or “beautiful” to me might not correspond what to the other American in the room may feel,
But snarling at the opposition, with belligerent positioning, this seems to be a transgression in my mind,
And this is the “moral of the story” in this writing, this which I wish to end on.
