“It must always be remembered that the actions of public men will be the subject of thought at a future period, when interest is stifled and passion is silent, when fear has ceased to agitate and discord is at rest, and when conscience has resumed its sway over the human heart; nothing but what is just, therefore, can finally be expedient, because nothing else can secure the permanent concurrence of mankind.”
— A. Alison.
ALISON, SIR ARCHIBALD, Bart., D.C.L., born at Kenley, Shropshire, England, December 29, 1792; the son of the preceding; he was an eminent historian, and the author of many works, among which are "Essays, Political and Historical;" died near Glasgow, May 17, 1839.
Everyone is presumed innocent of their crimes until convicted in fair trial in a court of law.
But does this apply even to all, even those whose lives have been of skirting laws, breaking every rule, using the judiciary weak links to run out the clocks, etc.,
It seems laughable to presume innocence at this point,
But that is what we are forced to do, and it’s for the best, we know this.
So I read on Twitter of a possible indictment arriving next week for the former 45th president of the United States,
He has his allies still, if by fear, or culpablity, admiration even or only herd instinct it matters not at this point,
So many have lost patience with this man in recent years, of his knavery, his calls for violence, his attacks upon our institutions, just his nasty belligerence is hard to stomach,
Yet we realize that the scales of justice must be carefully calibrated with an ex-president involved, despite the wanton displays of disregard of laws by this man,
A man hardwired and mentored by a father and a onetime mob lawyer to cheat the system if possible, good job - have a change cookie son,
The “i’s” must be dotted, the “t’s” crossed, for here is someone who revels in living unjustly, it’s his badge of honor, and he has people who love him for this very thing,
The “passions,” a word rather out of use now are running high, on all fronts,
One well known Right podcaster warns, “don’t let the liberals bait you into violence,” ironically written perhaps, the 2nd Amendment soldiers needing a voice of reason,
All the time, the man they are trying to protect also revels in violence perpetrated in his name, as in January 6th, his calls are on his social media site for reprisals, I read this morning,
That such a shift of blame by this podcaster would be attempted now is rather disheartening, but par for the course, when troubles occur they wish exploit it if possible,
We must hope that the passions will diminish, so that the justice will be perceived as justice to those who are and have been blind followers of some time,
But regardless justice is imperative, we all know this,
As we don’t wish to have this all concur again, and perhaps lady justice will be convincing,
Personally I think the punishment will never equal the damage done by this man and his associates,
But my passions now are high.
“We ought always to deal justly, not only with those who are just to us, but likewise with those who endeavor to injure us; and this, too, for fear lest by rendering them evil for evil, we should fall into the same vice.”
— Hierocles.
HIEROCLES, born, 450; an eminent Platonic philosopher.
And we cannot become blind ourselves to the process, and accept some give and take, the guy held the office of presidency unfortunately, the office lends some leighway perhaps even to him, and we wish not to have his end be as it might have been in some other countries, even though he perhaps is deserving of such a fate, as we profess to be a nation democratic and law abiding.
It’s a delicate balancing act, one which we can only hope will occur.
“Willful perpetrations of unworthy actions brand, with most indelible characters of infamy, the name and memory to posterity.”
— King Charles II.
CHARLES II, King of England, the eldest son of Charles the First, born, May 29, 1630; he lacked the virtues of his father, being noted for his immoralities; died, February 6, 1685.
We have to not bury this dishonor within our history books, and never let someone try and rewrite this sad saga we have been living through,
If indeed justice determines what is now perceived as obvious to people like myself,
Then there must be a lesson learned, we must face the dangers with open eyes and with a very long memory prevent it from happening again.
Regardless of the political future for this man in question who once held the highest office in the land, it matters little to him I do think,
He is in the business of destabilizing the country, perhaps a reward for doing so awaits this man, or perhaps some threat will not be carried out against him he he fulfills some bargain,
It is my strong feeling he is serving a purpose for others, rather than only to his own personality disorder, or to stay out of incarceration even,
I will not change this opinion without some very convincing information otherwise,
We know Steve Bannon wants calamity, as he has plainly said, but it’s much bigger than this man most certainly,
Infamy should be a word used in the future if justic says it should be.
“Integrity hath many advantages over all the arts of dissimulation and deceit; it is much the plainer and easier, much the safer and more secure way; it hath less of trouble and difficulty, of entanglement and perplexity, of danger and hazard; it is the shortest and nearest way to our end, carrying us thither in a straight line, and will hold out and last, when deceit and cunning, which continually grow weaker and less effectual, will finally fail us.”
— Tillotson
TILLOTSON, JOHN, D.D., (Archbishop of Canterbury,) born in Yorkshire, 1630; a celebrated English divine and author. As a preacher he surpassed all his rivals, and he still keeps his place as a legitimate English classic; died, 1694.
The lesson of integrity to our young people must not be too firm after our difficulties in the last years, with mountains of bad examples witnessed,
For many, personal integrity will never return, nor should it, so to assume that those acting and enabling the acting of such behavior as we have witnessed may be beyond redemption in reality,
The pill will be too large and too bitter for them to swallow anyway,
But for the young people who are our future they must develop, appreciate and recognize integrity, and demand it in their leaders,
This is paramount to the survival of the nation,
This a proclamation with perhaps some over-dramatic effect purposesfully attached to it,
But it seems imperative to become so in my mind,
Justice is our starting place.
“Deal not in unreasonable conjecture.”
— Mrs. Marsh
MARSH, ANNA CALDWEL, born in Staffordshire, 1798; a popular English “authoress.”
Wise words for this particular author (myself) to take seriously,
I don’t pretend to be a professional journalist, I have none of the training or experience to be so, but I wish not to be seen clothed in a tinfoil hat either, most certainly,
But in the age of Trump, I would plead that we all have been forced into conjecture to some degree due to his modus operandi of deception witnessed nearly every day, there has been no trusting of this man, ever,
His background, all things about him and his family require a certain amount of conjecture to not be caught off guard flat-footed, as some of his most devoted followers may be in the coming weeks and months,
So I apologize for so much conjecture, I’ve been critiqued for the use of it in the past by more seasoned writers than myself,
But I only see a need for robust conjecture in this matter, and have been under the impression of this since I first heard him speak in front of his fans in 2015.
Note, for those who grimace of my use of followers of religious doctrines in my quotes so often, I generally search for the quote’s substance, regardless of its source and the person behind it, and if they lived up to the lesson in the quote, only to make the point to the best of my truth. Please forgive me.
